Procedure for Visits
- Visits are from Sunday to Sunday from 0900 hrs to 1500 hrs.
- Visitor(s) arrive at Control/ Entrance and will be issued a number, after which he/she proceeds to the visitor's waiting area.
- Once number is called, he/she will proceed to Control again.
- Control Officers will request some form of Identification to verify identity of visitor (Social Security, passport, Voters Id or Drivers License).
- If more than one individual is visiting the same inmate, identities of all must be confirmed. Control Officers are advised to use their discretion in these cases.
- Particulars of visitors i.e. Name/Address/Serial No. of Id Card/Relationship to the Inmate will be recorded in the Visit Form and Visit Log Book.
- Control Officer will call location of Inmate, informing the officer of such visit and inquire if he/she will accept the visit. If the visit is rejected by the inmate, the visitor will be advised accordingly and the visit will be denied.
- Also, if the inmate is under sanction or lockdown, the visit may also be rejected. However, items may be received as long as it complies with the accepted items list.
- Any item brought for the Inmate will be thoroughly searched and documented. Items not allowed (see list below) will be secured for the visitor until after the visit and the Control Officer must ensure it is returned and removed from the Prison by the visitor. However, the prison/staff will not be held accountable for lost or stolen items.
- All visitors will be thoroughly searched and any refusal of such will be grounds for disallowing the visit.
- Once the Control Officer is satisfied the above has been followed, the visitor(s) will be allowed to proceed to the visiting box.
- There will be a waiting period of approximately 10 to 15 minutes for the inmate to be escorted over to the visit box.
- The visiting form will be handed to the officer supervising visits, whereby he will verify name of inmate and his location within the prison. Time of inmate’s arrival will be recorded in the visiting book. Duration of visit is 30 minutes. This is also dependent however on the number of people waiting for a visit. The more people, the shorter the visit so as to give all a chance. It is therefore recommended to visit during the week when it is slow or on Saturdays. Sundays are the busiest days.
- Once the visit is complete, the escorting officer will be informed and inmate will be escorted back to his respective location.
- Visitor(s) will then proceed to Control, whereby if any items belonging to them will be handed over and they will be allowed to leave.
