Tourist Center

The Tourist Center, located right out front of the Belize Central Prison facility, next to the parking lot, cannot be missed. It houses:

Snack Shop
Gift Shop
Male and female bathrooms
Mini Botanical garden and Park

It is a thatched roof building which lends to the atmosphere. It was constructed in 2004 and became operational in December of that same year. It was created with the thought of catching that passerby known as a tourist. The Prison sit right almost in the middle of the route that the cross country tourist take when using Belize to cross from Mexico to Guatemala or vice versa. With that in mind it was reasoned that when they pass the halfway point they are about ready for food and a bathroom, basically a little break.

It has turned out that the tourist is a little more elusive of a catch than the local belizean who visits the facility or stop by out of curiosity or just plain hunger. More business is generated from this group rather than the tourist. However, the occasional bus does pass though.

Snack Shop

The Snack Shop is exactly what the name says. It does the usual snack food such as burgers, sandwiches, fries etc. However, it does a different special everyday for lunch. Don't be surprised to find nice fry fish or a good Belizean boil up. Of course the traditional rice and beans cannot be forgotten or a nice juicy BBQ. Whatever it is, it will surely be good.

For those of us who know, under a thatch roof is one of the most coolest spot to relax. the rustling as the wind passes through the thatch leads to drowsiness. Particularly after a good hearty meal.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is a display of all things made within the facility. It serves as the outlet and as a display center. There are furniture, handicrafts, jewelry, hammocks, carvings and many other items too numerous to mention. All are reasonably priced. Special orders are also taken should anything be desired but not seen.

The most exquisite of carved doors are done upon order; any design or size can be made. All wood are Belizean harvested from our lush tropical forest and hand worked in our workshop. We do a wide assortment of work both large and small.
